Theophany is sort of a changing group of people. In 2003, two youth ministers in Austin had a vision for a monthly city-wide youth worship service. Usually when you put together a worship service, you need some sort of band. So these two guys started calling people they knew. When it all sifted out, five people led the first ever Theophany worship service. Becky Middleton, Chris Cox, Brett McDonald, Ryan Hancock, and Sam Keir.
The Lord was glorified in the Theophany worship service, and the Austin Baptist Association youth ministers asked the band to lead for the annual summer youth camp. Extremely honored, the band agreed and began working more diligently on a solid set of songs. As the youth camp began promoting, they asked the band for a name. Either the name of the worship service was really good or the band was just lazy or a little of both- the band went with the name Theophany.
That summer, Theophany was also asked to lead one session of Texas A&M’s Impact. The Lord showed Himself to be mighty again and Theophany was humbled that He would use them to do great things.
The summer of 2003 was the springboard for Theophany’s only recording to date. They recorded their album in Abilene, Texas in Green Room Studios, and by the summer of 2004 it was completely finished and sold very well at Texas A&M’s Impact 2004.
